My sister was always kind of a bitch to me. Yeah I said it. Do I have to spell it out for you? B-I-T-C-H. My name is Kacey Bones, I’m 15 years old and I go to Hood High School in Pennsylvania, and my sister might be a serial killer, but she’s still my sister… or so I thought anyway. I guess this whole thing started when I discovered my sister had a secret – a big secret she wasn’t telling anybody.
“This is the latest in the long line of burglaries that started last week with the robbery of the Chinese embassy as well as the Gucci Store and the Armani Store. Experts say only a few items were stolen from the Pittsburgh Egyptological Museum, but they include a rare ancient Egyptian curse-skull which was the only one in the United States. The method of this burglar is said to match that of the robber of the Chinses Embassy and the Gucci Store and the Armani Store.”
“That’s so terrible.” My mom exclaimed. “This is to do with immigration.”
“Mom!” I said, mortified.
“I agree with your mother.”
“In other news-“ The TV anchor droned on boringly. “It is also world epilepsy week this week and epeleptics everywhere are meeting for the International Convention in Baltimore.”
“It’s time for school finish your breakfast Kacey.”
We went to school. I arrived at school and scowled at my little miss perfect sister, Samantha, though everyone called her Sam, which is a boys name. She was hanging around with all her friends who were preps and jocks even though our family was pooor – mom and dad still brought her all the fancy clothes and cars she desired because they spoilt her.
“Look gang it’s little Kacey Bones. Hi Harvey bones, when did you showever last?” The gang of bullies pointed and laughed, including my own sister. It was true I smelt, but that was because I couldn’t afford to waste water on showevers or baths – so my parents could afford her Gucci rings and high heels and a hummer to driver in.
“Shut up I’ll kill all of you!” I screamed, and slapped the nearest one in the face with my bag. My papers went everywhere, flying all over the room and fluttering everywhere to the floor all around me. The bull flipped to the floor, but Two more came over with knifes, growling
“You better wear some Gucci tomorrow Kacey, this is a Gucci school.” They growled.
“I’d need Gucci if I looked as bad as you.” It was true, they were two ugly and fat girls who nobody would liked if they weren’t rich.
“You’ll get what’s coming to you Kacey!” They yelled as they ran away. Suddenly, the bell rang. I went to class.
We were doing math class with Mr. Blue, the mathematic teacher, when suddenly an announcement came over the school tannoy.
“All students come to the gym for a big announcement, I repeat, all students to the gym for an announcement!”
We all filed out of class towards the gym. Suddenly down the corridor, I spotted Sam and her cronies just in front of me. I shrank down in the crowd hoping they wouldn’t spot me and bully me. Just as we were getting to the gym, however, I saw my sister saying something to her gang. Sure enough, she waved, and separated from the group – not going towards the gym, but instead down a side corridor.
“What’s that dumb skank up to now?” I wondered. Well, there was only one way to find out. I slipped away from the crowds and followed her.
I saw my sisters leg disappearing up the steps and I followed her. I came out on the balcony above the gym, looking down on the whole school gathered in the gym. I momentarily forgot my sister as I looked down at the principal, who was talking at the podium.
“Children – it is my grave news that I must announce something bad about one of the pupils in this school.” There was a gasp from the crowd that echoed around the gym. “I have discovered the identity of the bloody skull killer is one of the pupils at this school!”
“What?” I muttered to myself, in schok, my sister completely forgotten. The bloody skull killer? A pupil at my school? It seemed impossible! Who could it be?
“I don’t think you will, Mr Principal!” Another voice suddenly cut in, deep and ominous. Everyone looked around, trying to see who was speaking. Suddenly, I saw the figure up in the rafters. A black cloaked figure wearing a red mask. I recognized them instantly – the bloody skull killer! “I don’t think you will do that at all!”
“NO!” The principal yelled, but it was too late. The bloody skull killer pulled something from their bag – it was the famous supernatural Native American curse skull they killed with – it resonated with supernatural power. The principals noo turned into a scream as he was fixed in the skulls deadly red gaze. He screamed in agony. Blood ran from the corners of his eyes. Already, the gym was in chaos, as students fled in all directions screaming. The principal crumpled to the ground, a stream of blood spurting violently from his eyes. I sprinted down the stairs and ran through the adotitorium to where the principal lay dying.
“Si-“ He whispered as his life blood leaked out an his face turned grey. “Sis-“
“Who?” I yelled “who was it?!”
“Sister.” He whispered, and died.
We were collected from school and taken home. Sam claimed she was sick, and I didn’t see her for the rest of the night, but that night I was tossing and turning, deep in thought. I had seen my sister climbing up the stairs and that was the only way up to the rafters where the bloody skull killer had hidden. Could it be possible? That’s what the principle had claimed as he lay dying. It was the only explanation, I realized with strong terror. But how had she done it?
The next day I went to school, but there was only one thing on my mind – my evil sister.
Miss Legs, our advanced Spanish teacher was droning on about some boring thing about the conquistadors, when suddenly the door to our classroom slammed open, and a kid stuck his head inside.
“You’ve gotta see this! Come quick!” Yelled the kid, before disappearing off down the corridor. Miss Smith frowned and was about to tell the class to ignore the distraction when her phone rang. She answered, and a look of dismay crossed her face. Outside in the corridor we could hear footsteps and shouting as people ran. We got up and went out into the corridor, following the crowd.
In the common area, someone had rolled out a large, flat-screen HD TV, and it was showing Fox News. I jostled forward through the crowd, and was finally able to catch what the anchor was saying.
“-this footage was taken just an hour ago as-”
“I can’t believe it’s happened again.” Someone near me murmured as the screen cut to some kind of a conference. I recognized the president of America shaking hands with Micheal Junto, the President of Mexico, on the White House lawn. Suddenly the eyes of Micheal Junto lost their focus, as he seemed to stare away at something behind the camera. In a flash, the President of Mexico was screaming and thrashing. He collapsed to the floor, spittle foaming on his mouth. The crowd of reporters went silent as a hideous death rattle emanated from the Mexican President’s twisted throat.
The camera spun around as the cameraman tried to capture what the Mexican president had seen. I was frozen to the spot there in the common room as the camera panned over to the White House. What sight could’ve struck a man with such mortal terror he dropped dead where he stood? I dreaded to see it. There – in the window! I saw the figure – dressed all in black, holding a skull from which that deadly cursed light emanated – the fatal red light of death. The figure threw its head back in a silent bout of evil laughter as the cameras zoomed in on its masked face. Masked – but still instantly recognizable. My heart sank as I realized that the bloody skull killer had struck again.
“-the president of mexico was declared dead instantly at the scene. Of the assasin, there was no trace. Police now suspect this was the work of the so-called bloody skull killer – who has recently been behind a string of killings in the Baltimore Area.” The reporter droned on and on, but I ignored her as I could only focus on the image on the screen – the final shape of President Micheal Junto’s death mask, his face contorted into a bloody red skull.
“Alright everybody, back to class.” One male teached clapped his hands to break the spell of the horrifying image and strolled over to turn off the television. Slowly, one by one we all filtered away from the common area – returning to our classes, but all unable to tear our imaginations away from that figure in the window, and the unholy red light that had probed out of its skull.
I was still traumatized when I got home that evening, though Samantha was her usual preppy self. Mom frowned when I barely spoke as I sat down to join the family for dinner. She was wearing a cream and gold Armani jump suit and a Gucci medallion that said the word Gucci in a stylized font. She also wore black ray-ban glasses and ear-rings which had two black diamonds on each ear and were made of gold. As usual I was just wearing a black pair of wal-mart jeans and a black hoodie which I found in an trash can.
“Kacey are you okay? You look very pale? Are you sure you aren’t coming down with Samantha’s illness?”
“No Mom, I’m fine, really.” I concentrated on stirring around the big plate of green beans to make it look like I had eaten some of the green delicious beans – but she wasn’t buying it.
“Kacey Patience Bones, you will tell me what the matter is this instant.” Seeing my shocked reaction, my mother quickly softened. “What happened darling was it something – at school?”
“Yes Mom it was-” I found myself choking up all of a sudden, and had to look down at my plate to hide the tears now welling in my eyes. “-it was the meeting today with the Mexican President and the President of America.”
“The summit meeting?” My father looked puzzled. “Casey what are you talking about? What happened with the economy summit meeting?”
“The Mexican president…“ I gasped eventually “He died. He was murdered.”
“No!” Both my parents gasped simultaneously.
“He was murdered … by the bloody skull killer. We saw it on TV.”
“Wow that is horrible.” Samantha fluttered her eyelids at our parents, a perfect picture of innocence. “I didn’t even hear about this as I was in my room all day, ill. So there is no chance it could’ve been me.”
“No of course not Samantha, you’re our perfect little angel you’d never do anything wrong.” My parents said. “Perhaps Kacey had something to do with it.”
“Mom I think I actually am coming down with Samantha’s illness, I feel sick. Can I stay home from school tomorrow?”
“Of course you can Kacey now eat your green beans you need your strength if you’re ill.”
I ate a few of my green beans but honeslty I was feeling sick so didn’t eat many of them. I wasn’t really ill though, it was part of a ruse. A plan designed by me to find out once at for all if my sister really was behind the killings – to find out if my sister really was the bloody skull killer.
I waited until that night, and then slid out of the window, and climbed down to the bush in front of our house. For protection I had brought my Dad’s gun. Now to wait. Sure enough, I saw a movement at her window a little after midnight. The window tugged, and slid upwards, and she climbed out. She climbed down the side of the building, and walked down off the street … so I followed her.
I followed her down the street, down to the downtown area, to the museum. It was a dark, creepy building at night, shadows striking tall against its floodlit façade. Sam’s footsteps echoed off the marble as she climbed up the stairs, and disappeared inside. I followed, and finally she reached her destination – the balcony above the rotunda, just out of sight of the CCTV cameras.
I aimed the gun square at my sisters back, and drew a depth breath…
“I knew it! All along, it was you.” I yelled out, my voice echoing across the columns of the empty chamber. Samantha froze. “Don’t move Sam!”
“Kacey. You always were a smart cookie huh.” Samantha turned slowly to face me. I recognized her instantly under the balaklava. There was no doubting it was her. The gun wobbled slightly in my hand but I kept it trained firmly on her.
“How could you Samantha? How could you be the bloody skull killer?”
“You’d never shoot me Kace. I’m your own sister.”
“I’ll do it. Give yourself up Sam.”
She only smirked.
“I know how you did it! It’s impressive really. You broke into the Chinese embassy and stole a hi-tech designer bio-weapon, and gene tailored it to induce epileptic susceptibility in your targets by editing their DNA. Then, using that ancient Egyptian curse skull you would flash a bright light at them – inducing the epileptic fit – and making it seem like they died of super-natural causes. That’s why you struck this week, because you knew that all the real epileptics in the school would be away at the conference in Baltimore and so nobody would spot your ruse. Also you wanted to protect your boyfriend”
“How do you know all of that?” Samantha suddenly seemed confused.
“Because I’m your sister Sam.” It was at that moment, she struck.
I cried out as the sharp blade of a Gucci high heel struck my hand as Sam came in with a high karate kick. The gun flew from my hand, and skittered away across the marble floor. I barely had time to dodge as her other leg flew up, high heel almost slicing me across the neck. I rolled away, going down hard to the marble floor. The gun was only a few feet away, and I leapt to my feet and ran for it. Samanatha was faster. She smashed the glass on the nearest display case and pulled out an old civil war rifle. Just as I slid towards the gun, the marble around it exploded into a hail of a shrapnel. The gun skittered away – over the edge. It fell to the floor dozens of feet below. I was exposed, and my killer sister was going in for the kill.
“I was always the better sister.” Sam swiped the butt of the empty mustket at the air next to me, but I rolled away. “Now I’m going to kill you.”
I dodge-rolled away as she swiped away again. Fallen into my trap. We had manoeuvred so that our original positions had swapped – Sam’s back was now to the edge of the balcony, and at my feet was the Gucci handbag Sam had dropped there. Before she could realize what was happening, I reached into the bag, and pulled out the skull.
A horrifying red light swallowed the room. The deadly gaze of the cursed skull fell across my sister.
“NO!” She screamed in a barely human wrenching of pure terror. But it was too late. As I watched, my sisters face contorted under the red light, her mouth tearing wider and wider in a silence scream. There was a pop as her eyeballs popped, and then a deep horrifying sigh. She slumped backwards, dead, and toppled backwards over the railing, down into the dark. It was over with a heavy slap echoing below.
“I love you, sis.” I whispered, but she was already gone.
A few seconds later the police burst into the museum front door and through grenades through the door. Smoke burst everywhere.
“Everybody put your hands up, this is the police!”
“I’m innocent” I yelled as they ran inside and pointed their guns at me. Suddenly the head police man looked past me and saw the slumped form of my sister on the floor behind me. He slowly lowered his gun and looked at me.
“Are you Kacey Bones?”
“I am, and I think my sister killed the president.”
“You’re right kid, we had an anonymous tip-off that told us to come here.” He nodded with impression. “I think you’ve just stopped the bloody skull killer…”
The police officers took me outside to an ambulance where a doctor checked me over and gave me a bandage for the cuts on the face made by my murderous sister. As I was being served by the doctors the head police man came over to me, carrying Samantha’s black Gucci hanbag. Behind him, I saw two doctors in white coats carrying a stretcher which had a black body-bag on down to the prison-ambulance.
“The doctors did a DNA test on your sister, and confirmed she was the killer.” He looked down at me handsomely. “You were very brave.”
“Thanks I was just doing what anybody would have done.”
“This was hers. Because she’s dead this is yours now.” The police man handed me the black Gucci handbag which was heavy with the weight of the curse-skull of the bloody skull killer.
“Thank you officer.”
“You’re free to go home would you like a lift home?”
I nodded and he took me in the police car back to home. Inside my parents woke up at the sound of knocking and came to the door.
“Kacey? What’s going on? Where’s Samantha?”
“Mr Bones, Mrs Bones, I am afraid to tell you that I have some terrible news about your daughter…”
The police man came inside and started to explain the whole story to my parents. As he did, I went upstairs back to my bedroom. When I was sure the police man and my parents were distracted talking I crossed silently to my sisters bedroom across the door. Opening the door as quietly as I could, I switched on the light. Quickly, before my parents could hear, I went over to the bed and grabbed the clothing back and the note, and ran to the trash room. I took one last look at the note, which read –
Put this on and meet me at the museum at midnight
~ Kacey x
Quickly I threw them both in the trash chute and watched the fire consume them as the flames reflected across my face. When I was sure all the evidence was destroyed, I went back to the living room where the officer was just finishing the story with my parents.
“-And so, that’s why the bloody skull killer won’t be striking again. All thanks to your daughter here.”
“Kacey, you’re a hero.” My parents said. “Thanks you you the bloody skull killer won’t be killing any more people.”
“Thanks Mom, thanks Dad.” I looked proud, but deep down inside, I was smirking. I had a feeling that the bloody skull killer would in fact be striking again, and very soon. Very soon indeed.
