It was the new day, it was time to play the new call of duty update and try out the new map – called Cheshire Park, which was In London, England. I waited for the game to download and it took several hours because it was such a large download. Finally the game was downloaded. I opened up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and selected multiplayer mode, as I was excited to play the new Cheshire Park map. I quickly selected the new playlist – Cheshire Park 24/7 which would allow me to play nothing but this great new map and have fun.
The first game started and I played the map but I got my a** kicked, because I didn’t know my way round the map at all and it was all brand new to me. I quickly quitted the game and started a new game on custom mode, with an empty private match to bearings on the map and discover its secrets. I was quickly running around and having fun discovering all the secrets of the map, for instance the various buildings that surround the map and as well as the streets and the park in the centre. Somewhat this map did have a creepy atmosphere when I was alone. I noticed it was dark and the streets were abandoned. It was nearly the evening in the map, and it had a dark, sad atmosphere. I was walking down the street when I got to the main icon of the map, which was the big greenhouse.
I went inside, it had a creepy atmosphere being a big empty greenhouse and it had a large tree in the centre which had long creepy shadows. When I was running around the map I noticed something weird and suddenly figured out there must be an easter egg on this map. There were lots of mousetraps around the map in various hidden places. I shot all of them I could find but nothing happened. I ran around the map for longer and fortunately I didn’t have a time limit on because it was a custom game. I was looking for more mouse traps to complete the easter egg. That was when I realized something. The map was now almost completely dark. The map started out in the evening, and so it was already quite dark, but suddenly I noticed that over time it had been getting slightly dark so it was almost completely nighttime now. I wondered if nobody else had noticed this yet because games don’t usually last that long.
“Wow cool, and easter egg!” I exclaimed excitedly.
I ran down the dark streets and realized I pretty much needed my night vision goggles now, it was almost like a night-mode map. Suddenly I got back to the greenhouse and I saw something freaky now – the doors had closed and I could no longer get inside. I tried to look inside but I could only see shadows through the glass. There was a really weird noise as well. It was like something was inside the greenhouse scratching at the walls, trying to get out. I went over to the other house and looked down in the window to the greenhouse. I could see through the dome, there were lots of dark shapes writhing around beyond the glass. I couldn’t even recognize them as humans they were weird twisted shadows. But it was too dark to tell what it was.
“What the fuck.” I whispered to myself.
Suddenly when I turned around, I saw the last mouse trap. I shot the mouse trap and it made a noise causing a piece of cheese to spawn. I ran around the map trying to figure out what to do next as I didn’t want to go in that disgusting greenhouse under any circumstances. I found the wheel of cheese and combined it with the slice of cheese and suddenly I new what I had to do, I had to go to that creepy statue in the centre of the map of the boy. It was like the legend of the pied piper who had played noises on his pipe to get ride of rats in the town. I took the cheese to the pied piper and placed it at the feet of the statue. The statue played a creepy song using its pipe, and suddenly the scurrying sound from the greenhouse got louder. There was a crack and the glass shattered, and just as I turned around I saw hundreds of things bursting out of the greenhouse. They looked like rats but they were wrong somehow, like twisted mutations. They had red eyes and theyre teeth were fiercly biting at the air as they ran straight for me. The rat creatures overran my character and the screen whent red. Then I had died, and I didn’t respawn, the game just ended I was back at the main menu. I was terrified.
Suddenly I heard something down the hall in my real life house. A strange sound, like a splashing or a struggling. I got up from the console and walked down the hallway and went into the restroom where I heard the noise coming from. It was a strange noise. I looked over the toilet and freaked out. In the toilet bowl was a single rat. It looked like it was sick and dying, and the noise was it spazzing in the water. It looked up with its red eye like it was saying I was cursed now, then it stopped moving.
After that I refused to play on Cheshire Park ever again. I would back out whenever it came out on the list. But something else – from that day on I would sometimes see things in the corners of my eye. They were little black shapes, I realized, rats. They say you’re never more than five metres away from a rat when you’re in a big city, but ever since I played that map … I think they’re getting closer.
